From Tavern to Upscale Hotel

Every generation leaves its mark

To be sure, all of the rooms, bathrooms and facilities are structurally, technologically and stylistically modern. It’s our long history and creative preservation of the property, however, that gives the Hotel Zur Weinsteige its extraordinary character.

When the current generation’s step-grandfather built the main building in 1955 on the foundation of an incredible vaulted cellar from 1870 (still used by the hotel today), it was only a rustic tavern and a few guest rooms that attracted travelers and locals to what was then called the Hotel Wörtz Stuttgart.

As Richard Scherle took the family business into the second generation in 1970, he painstakingly improved upon his step-father’s vision to create an upscale hotel and restaurant, renowned well beyond the bounds of Stuttgart.

Since the business moved into the third generation in 2001, Jörg and Andreas Scherle have, just like their father and step-grandfather before them, made their own mark with the addition of the Schlösschen (Little Castle), the creation of a Koi business with a large pond in the courtyard as well as taking over management of the restaurant Weinhaus Stetter in Stuttgart.

Koi Stuttgart

Nestled between the main building and the Schlösschen (Little Castle) lies the large 30,000L Koi pond with rare and award-winning Japanese Koi Carp. Here you’ll find many colorful and impressive Jumbo Koi swimming gentle circles. They have all been hand-selected from top breeders in Japan by Jörg Scherle for his business KOI STUTTGART and have gone on to win multiple world and european championships. A collection like this outside of Japan is very rare indeed.
